One of York’s favourite bars has a legendary cocktail menu untouched for 18 years. But it has just made a big change to its food menu – which is going down a storm.
Dusk now serves up pizza by the pie or the slice – bringing a slice of New York to Old York.
The popular York bar on New Street has launched ‘Crooked Slice’, and the new pizza menu replaces their previous food offer.
“We wanted to refresh the menu with an offer that can be a full meal or a quick bite with a pint,” said a spokesperson from Dusk.
“Some of our favourite food places in London, Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh are New York slice joints – we took a lot of inspiration from them.”
“York has some great local food vendors and chefs and we wanted to tap into their knowledge.
“We worked with Jack and Ethan from El Rayo Cantina to develop the menu and flavours of Crooked Slice – originally the idea was for a pop-up, but we quickly realised it’d be the perfect fit for Dusk for the long term.”
The menu currently has five different delectable pizza options to choose from, starting at £4.20 per slice and £14.95 for a whole pie, including vegetarian and vegan options. There will also be specials on offer, introducing new flavours and using seasonal foods.
Options include the Hot Salami with fennel salami, hot honey and pickled chillies or the Sloppy V with vegan ground beef, pickled chillies and vegan mozzarella.
“In New York the slices stick to a very traditional formula, whereas in the UK we can be more adventurous with slice flavours and presentation.”
The pizzas are made on-site, and have a sourdough base made with Wildfarmed flour. The brand Wildfarmed is co-founded by Andy Cato from electronic music duo Groove Armada, and uses regenerative farming – a traditional method that uses minimal chemicals and promotes soil and eco-system health.
The flour is also predominantly UK grown, which minimises food miles.

The new menu is already getting a great response.
“Everyone who has tried our NY Slice has loved it – we had one visitor from New York who told us it’s better than any pizza he’d had in NY!”
Though the food is all change, it’s not the same for the cocktail menu – which has stayed the same for 18 years.
“The menu is part and parcel of the mythology of the place – and we love it when a customer returns after 15 years and can still get a Milkybar Kid.
“That said, we do have specials on the menu to keep everyone’s taste buds fresh & interested – something we can have fun with.”
