They’ve spent £250K in three weeks transforming it. So the owners of York bar The Slug And Lettuce have every right to throw a party to celebrate its reopening.

The Swinegate venue throws open its doors again on Saturday (May 23) to show off its new look.

But the official launch party weekend starts on the following Friday, May 29. There’s a VIP reception at 5pm with fizz and canapés. Then everyone can come and join in the fun from 7pm.

Bartenders will be giving cocktail masterclasses and tasters. And during the evening general manager Laura McMahon will give away a diamond worth £500 to one lucky customer.

Among the new cocktails being launched are three with the intriguing names Peanut Butter, Jelly Martini and the Moscow Mule.

Local cask ales and craft beers join cocktails and wine on the drinks menu.

Laura said:

The brand new bar is stunning. We can’t wait to show our regular customers our brand new look and we look forward to welcoming them.

New menu

The launch weekend continues with a Family Fun Day on the Saturday. There’s a new kids’ menu running throughout every day, starting with egg and soldiers for breakfast.

Open daily from 10am, breakfast is served till midday, and the new menu features both a full English and eggs royale.

Another new dish is waffles topped with pulled pork and fried eggs.

Employing 15 local people, the Swinegate bar will open till 11pm from Sundays to Thursdays, 1am on a Friday and 2am on a Saturday.

The Slug And Lettuce is one of the chains owned by the Luton-based Stonegate Pub Company.
