York-based band Miles and The Chain Gang release their first single this month – and are planning more gigs.
‘When It Comes To You’ is a bright, brisk track with echoes of New Wave bands from the early 1980s, classic Americana, and The Beatles. It’s released on iTunes on 24 February.
“It’s a pop song,” says Miles, band songwriter and vocalist. “It’s a happy-go-lucky song about unrequited love.”
Joining Miles are bandmates Tim Bruce (bass), Billy Hickling (drums) and Alan Dawson (guitar). The song is augmented by York vocalist Holly Taymar-Bilton and Simon Waggott (keyboards).
More gigs coming
The song was recorded at University of York recording studio and mixed by Jonny Hooker at Young Thugs. This video accompanying the song was filmed at The Crescent in York in December.
Miles and The Chain Gang formed in late 2018 and have been playing around the York area.
“We’re working on more gig plans,” says Miles. “We want to get out there more: Leeds, East Yorkshire, Manchester.
“I’m really pleased with the track – I like the energy of it. It’s the audio equivalent of a labrador wagging its tail.”
The band play The White Horse on Bootham on Friday, 3 April. Free entry.
