A York band were at the centre of a major showbiz wedding this week.
Pixie Lott married her fiancé Oliver Cheshire yesterday (Monday) at Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire.
In a ceremony long-delayed by Covid, the 31-year-old singer tied the knot in front of beaming guests including McFly’s Danny Jones and his wife Georgia Horsley, who is from Norton.
And Georgia wasn’t the only local connection. Top York band the New York Brass Band provided the music!
The jazz band even provided musical accompaniment as the happy couple emerged from the cathedral to be showered in confetti and share a kiss.
On Instagram, the band wrote: “Monday afternoon at Ely Cathedral we played at Pixie Lott’s wedding.
“This was our 10th gig in 5 days the boys and girls have earned a few days rest.”
The New York Brass Band is a New Orleans-inspired brass band which formed in York in 2011.
Since then the band “has been rocking weddings, burning up festivals and smashing sports events” their website says.
In one year alone they played more than 200 gigs – but few will have been more glamorous than yesterday’s wedding bash.
Pixie, known for such hits as Mama Do, All About Tonight and Cry Me Out, has been engaged to Oliver since he proposed on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in 2016.
Recently the chart star has moved into television and was a coach in the TV series The Voice Kids UK.
