Treat your loved one to something sweet this Valentine’s – as a York bakery launches what might be the country’s most luxurious doughnut.
Bakery brand Project D will be releasing its 24 Karat Magic Love Heart Mega doughnut for a limited period of three or four days in the run-up to Valentine’s Day – and they will be available in their York store in Parliament Street.
The mega doughnut is covered with 24-carat edible gold leaf, measures almost one-foot in diameter and takes around six man-hours each to produce.
Weighing-in at almost 1kg, the heart-shaped treat has a pure Belgian white chocolate base and a melted Caramac-style gold filling.
The Caramac gold bar was discontinued in 2023 after nearly 60 years, but the team at Project D have created their own Caramac-style filling.
The doughnut is also topped with an array of sweet delights – including Kit-Kat, Lion Bar, Malteser Bar, White Terry’s Chocolate Orange, gold Belgian chocolate callets, caramel crunch balls, and finished with an edible gold spray.
The 24 Karat Magic Love Heart Mega doughnut will be on sale for £29.95, and will be very limited in stock.
Project D opened their first bricks-and-mortar store in York last year to queues down the street.
Max Poynton, one of Project D’s three co-founders, said: “Valentine’s Day is our favourite time of year at Project D. It allows us to go just that little bit crazy!
“Nothing says ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ better than a heart – so what can be better than a giant, gold-covered heart that also tastes like heaven?”
Project D has also launched a range of eight other tasty Love Heart Mega doughnuts – including the Lemon-Berry Bonanza, White Choc Brownie, and the Buenissemo. They are priced between £15.95 and £17.95 each.
As well as being available in store on Parliament Street, the sweet treats will be available for delivery nationwide.
