With an extra Bank Holiday declared for Monday (19 September) for the Queen’s funeral, councils have updated their bin collection schedules.
In York, City of York Council has said its services won’t be operating as usual, which includes changes to waste and recycling collections, which will not be taking place on Monday.
Other councils are doing the same. Here’s the information on bin collections so far. We’ll update if information comes in from other authorities.
York
Collections on Monday 19 September will be collected on:
- Black bin: Tuesday 20 September
- Recycling: Monday 3 October
- Garden waste: Monday 3 October
Collections on Tuesday 20 September will be collected on:
- Black bin: Tuesday 20 September
- Recycling: Tuesday 20 September
- Garden waste: Tuesday 4 October
In addition to this, Hazel Court and Towthorpe HWRC’s are closed on Monday 19 September.
Hambleton
All bin collections across Hambleton will be affected by the Bank Holiday.
There will be no collections on Monday – all collections will be one day late with Friday collections taking place on Saturday 24 September.

Richmondshire
All waste and recycling collections across Richmondshire are affected by next week’s bank holiday.
There will be no collections on Monday – September 19 – meaning they will all run one day late, including on Friday September 23 when they will take place on Saturday September 24.
There will be collections of both grey and green bins and recycling boxes and bags depending on your location – residents are asked to check on richmondshire.gov.uk
Harrogate
Harrogate Borough Council has announced that all collections will take place a day later than usual from the day of the funeral which is being marked with a bank holiday on Monday 19 September.
This will affect garden waste, refuse and recycling collections, and all household waste recycling centres will also close on Monday.
The date changes for bin collections are as follows:
- Monday 19 September will be Tuesday 20 September
- Tuesday 20 September will be Wednesday 21 September
- Wednesday 21 September will be Thursday 22 September
- Thursday 22 September will be Friday 23 September
- Friday 23 September will be Saturday 24 September
Normal collections will then resume on Monday 26 September.
