If you’ve not set off yet, don’t travel.

That’s the advice of LNER tonight (Friday) after a series of problems on the line.

The latest is a points failure at Church Fenton which means the line from York towards Leeds is blocked.

As a result, trains operating through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or diverted.

Disruption is expected till 6.30pm.

The LNER website states: “We strongly advise you to avoid travelling if you can. Trains are running, but there is major disruption, and you may be heavily delayed and/or experience severe overcrowding.”

Other incidents today include:

  • A fault on a train between Peterborough and London Kings Cross
  • Earlier lineside fire between York and Darlington
  • Earlier points failure at Darlington
  • A train hitting an obstruction on the line between Northallerton and Middlesbrough.
