What a way to start the week.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for wind covering York and North Yorkshire today (Monday, 15 April)
The high winds are combining with rain to make challenging conditions on the roads.
The Met Office said: “Strong winds may cause some disruption through Monday.”
According to the weather warning, which runs until 10pm tonight, coastal routes will be affected by spray and/or large waves, and there may be delays on the road, rail and at airports.
“Some short term loss of power and other services is possible,” the warning said. “Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.”
Today’s top temperature in York is 11°C but with the wind chill it will feel like 6°C. Tonight’s low is 6°C.
Things look up later in the week with weekend highs forecast at 15°C with cloud but no rain.
Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said: “We’ve got a pretty windy day across the whole of the UK with gusts of wind up to 40-50mph pretty much anywhere across the country.
“With that, we’ll have some quite blustery showers which will be slightly wintry in nature across the northern parts of the UK.
“You could get a little bit of sleet and certainly some hail so it will be a much colder feeling day.”
Forecasters say the rain will slowly move away towards the end of the week as an area of high pressure drifts eastwards, making for a “mostly dry” Saturday and Sunday nationwide.
