A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued which covers York and parts of North Yorkshire.
The Met Office has put the warning in force from 1pm to 9pm today (Monday, 6 May).
Forecasters say: “Thunderstorms and heavy downpours may cause flooding and travel disruption.”

The warning covers much of North Yorkshire from Selby in the south, up to Helmsley and Pickering.
The coast, including Scarborough and Whitby, are not covered.
The Met Office says
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
There is also a chance of flash flooding.
Midweek is forecast to be cloudy but relatively dry, with rain returning at the end of the week.
