Year of the bike continues with Bicycle film and director Q&A

9 Nov, 2014 by YorkMix

BAFTA-winning director Michael B. Clifford will talk about his new film Bicycle at a York screening on Monday (November 10).

  City Screen, Coney Street

  Mon Nov 10 @ 6.20pm

  Adult £10, child £6, conc £9

  City Screen website

The documentary will be shown at City Screen before the director takes part in a question and answer session.

Bicycle asks: why is cycling and the bicycle back in fashion? It tells the story of cycling in the land that invented the modern bicycle, its birth, decline and re-birth from Victorian origins to today.

The film weaves bicycle design, sport and transport through the re-telling of some iconic stories and features interviews with notable contributors including Sir Dave Brailsford, Gary Fisher, Chris Boardman, Ned Boulting, Dannielle Khan , Sir Chris Hoy, Tracy Moseley and Mike Burrows.

Britain’s largely forgotten history as a cycle-manufacturing nation, and its renaissance thanks largely to an unexpected revival in our Olympic fortunes, are just two aspects of this feature length documentary.

The screening comes towards the end of a year of cycling success for York, most notably with its hosting of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France this summer.

Michael Clifford is best known for his quirky, often provocative TV documentaries (Tourist Trouble, Abba: Bjorn Again).
