An axe throwing world championship is coming to the UK for the first time – and it’s being held in North Yorkshire!
The World Double-Bit Axe Throwing Championship will take place at Thirsk Racecourse from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 August 2024.
Visitors can expect up to 200 competitors from all over the world battling it out to become champion over five categories. There will also be the chance to have a go yourself with areas for axe and knife throwing!
The world double-bit axe throwing championships are held every two years and have previously been held in Germany, Sweden and Canada.
For 2024, the championship is hosted by the Axemore Throwing Club, Thirsk, and the first time the event has been held in the UK.
According to their website ‘double-bit axe throwing is the traditional form of axe throwing which involves a full length double-bitted axe thrown at a target 20ft away with 5cm scoring rings’.
Axemore Throwing Club was founded in 2019 by Ian Radmore, who is keen to bring more attention to throwing sports in the UK. He himself has competed in the world double-bit championship in Sweden.
The Thirsk club is no stranger to hosting competitions, with over 25 under their belt, including two UK double bit national competitions.
The event will be open to the general public – so watch this space for tickets!
