Emergency services were called out to help a woman who had entered the River Ouse early this morning (Saturday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews and York Rescue Boat were called the incident near Scarborough Bridge at 4.41am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said that crews were with the woman for some time. She initially refused assistance and stayed in the river.
At 5.29am, she was “rescued from river by swift water technicians from York Rescue Boat”.
York Rescue Boat said on social media: “The team were called by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service at 4.48am to reports of a person in the river near Scarborough Bridge in York.
“Working alongside the York fire service boat crew we deployed our boat crew into the water to rescue the person.
“They were then handed into the care of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust with assistance from North Yorkshire Police.”
