After a highly successful debut year in 2013, the York Mix / York Literature Festival’s poetry competition returns.

Prizes
First prize: £250
Second prize: £100
Third prize: £50.
The York prize (£40) will be awarded to an excellent poem from an entrant with a York postcode.
Five Highly Commended, and ten Commended poems will each win their writer a certificate.
Rules
The competition will be judged by award-winning poet Carole Bromley.
Prizes will be awarded on Sunday March 23, at Friargate Theatre, York.
Rules: 1. Poems may be on any subject; 2. Poems must not have been previously published in any form; 3. Poems must be not longer than 40 lines. 4. Entry fee: £5 for up to three poems. Additional entries may be made, in batches of up to three poems [e.g. To enter one, two or three poems in a single batch will cost a total of £5. An entry of four, five or six poems will cost a total of £10 (two batches). To enter seven, eight or nine poems would cost a total of £15]; 5. Poems must be entered via the link on www.yorkmix.com and payment made via PayPal; 6. Opening date for entries: Monday, January 6, 2014; Closing date: Deadline is midnight on Friday, February 28, 2014; 7. The competition is open to anybody resident in the UK aged 18 or over; 9. Copyright in submitted poems remains with the author. Entrants agree to allow their poems to be featured on YorkMix.com, and the websites of York Literature Festival and the judge’s own website. 10. Writers or speakers listed in the York Literature Festival 2014 programme are not eligible to enter; 11. York Literature Festival Committee members are not eligible to enter; 12. Winners will receive payment by cheque; 13. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into; 14. Entrants agree to have their email added to the York Literature Festival and YorkMix Mailing Lists, but can unsubscribe at any time; 15. Winners will be invited to read their poem at the prize-giving event at Friargate Theatre, York at 8pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
