Eagle-eyed York shoppers have spotted that all is not quite right in York this Christmas.
Yes, the city centre looks wonderfully festive, the lights are twinkling and the shoppers are out in force.
But if you want to plot your way around the city using the official York Christmas map, you could come a cropper.
Because three of the street names have been spelled wrong.
For instance, if you wanted to cross over the River Ouse, this map would direct you to ‘Brdige Street‘.
Fancy a riverside stroll? The map suggests a trip to ‘Kinds Staith’. Or you could take a walk to ‘Aldwalk’.

While visitors to York might spot the obvious misspelling of Bridge Street, they may not be aware that King’s Staith has been given a new, kindlier name on the map.
Or that Aldwark has been rechristened too.
But residents have picked up on the map mistakes. After all, they are displayed very prominently at the York Christmas Market.
One said: “Well this is a bit embarrassing! You’d think they would have proofread the map before sending it to be printed.”
But another was more forgiving, saying: “It’s not the end of the world. Everyone makes mistakes.”
The map is the work of Visit York. We’ve contacted them for their response, and will add it when they get back to us.
