A flying start yesterday with 8/1 winner Turpin’s tip Comedy School in the first race, beating the 5/2 favourite, Battered, to bring home a handy £26.20 forecast to cover our wonderful day out.
Hot favourite Raheen House was the only other selection to oblige (at 4/7), but Turpin nailed the place selection in that race too, Native Prospect at 6/1, bringing in a very acceptable £4.38 forecast to keep us ahead of the bookies – just – on the day.
But what does YorkMix‘s top tipster suggest for the final day of racing on Knavesmire for this year?
Turpin writes:
Talk about saving the best till last! It has been an amazing year at Knavesmire, and the featured Coral Sprint (3.45) is a great way to bow out on a high, as a field of 20 will make this one of the most competitive handicaps of the year.
Mythmaker, Captain Colby, Roudee and Normandy Barriere will be all the rage in the betting, but this is a wide-open contest.
Turpin sides, however, with trainer Michael Dodds, attempting to with this for the third time in four years, and he might just do it – at luscious odds – with Get Knotted, seeking revenge over Roudee for defeat in the Ayr Gold Cup.
Despite a great low draw, the six pound penalty on Captain Colby may just be the difference between a win and a place. I’ve had a good word from the Fahey yard for Mayfair Lady, and she will be included in my forecast combinations.
Not a race for high-stakes punting though, but a fascinating contest and a wonderful way to mark the end of a great season for the Knavesmire team.
Great Order earns the nap selection in the 2.35 race. The three-year-old caught the eye finishing like a train at Newmarket over a mile. The extra two furlongs are exactly what’s needed and the colt is a confident Turpin tip.
Central Square deserves huge respect after a tremendous Doncaster performance, and will be battling it out with bottom-weight Cote D’Azur for a place.
Hugo Palmer’s yard are hoping the tongue-tie and blinkers will work their magic on Gulliver in the 4.20. With two creditable runs, and little among the newcomers to cause concern, the headgear may be all that’s needed this time.

It’s the last two days of Knavesmire action this year and what a tasty programme there is in store.
And as well as enjoying the sport, you have two more chances to take the bookies to the cleaners. But who to back? Over to YorkMix‘s resident tipster…
Turpin writes:
The feature race, Stanjames.com Stakes (3.25), should see a tremendous battle between Sir Michael Stoute’s Yangtze and Roger Charlton’s impressive Blakeney Point.
I fully expect to see Sir Michael’s gelding leading them home, again benefiting from the use of the cheekpieces that did the job and focused his charge on the job in hand at Haydock last month.
But it’s a tricky race to assess and claims could be made for Against The Odds, Cape Cova, The Graduate and Master Blueyes.
Turpin will be having a flutter but his big plunge will be on the preceding event (2.50) where Her Terms looks the one to be on.
A handful of newcomers add intrigue, but of those with form, William Haggas’s maiden filly is clearly a cut above. She ran into a decent runner-up spot over course and distance a month ago, and has the benefit of the patient William Twiston-Davies in the driving seat.
In the 4.30, Raheen House looks too good to ignore, following two outings and two runner-up performances, easily the pick on the available form.
With eight newcomers, a surprise is always possible. But, with the notable exception of Crushed (watch for any market move on the Haggas gelding), there seems to be little there for the selection to worry about, especially as the experienced Jimmy Fortune can be relied on to get the best from this promising offspring of Sea The Stars.
