Who’ll win at York Races? Tips for the First Saturday

York is back in action with the first Saturday of its 18 day season.

There’s more than £180,000 in the prize pot for the seven race card, with the feature race boosted by £10,000.

The younger generation will be able to take part in activity with The Pony Club from a special marquee in Course Enclosure, an area that will come to life in the forecast sunshine.

The same positive weather outlook means that the track has relaxed its dress code for the County Stand area, so no jacket is required, simply a collared shirt and tie for gentlemen.

But who’s going to win? Over to YorkMix resident pundit, Dick Turpin…

Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 6)

Turpin writes:

Time for a new start! The Dante disaster is fast becoming a fading memory for your friendly highwayman tipster who was left near penniless after the rain and soft ground brought a spate of freak winners at impossible odds making it the biggest bookies’ benefit in decades at Knavesmire.

Fortunately the bright Bank Holiday weekend sunshine bodes well for the First Saturday meeting today (May 27) with the going back to the ideal ‘good to firm’ rating.

The five-furlong Unibet Sprint Handicap (3.50) is the day’s highlight with strong contenders in Love On The Rocks, East Street Revue, Line Of Reason and Rasheeq all with strong claims in an open contest.

But Turpin favours the O’Meara – Tudhope partnership to prevail with dual course and distance winner Out Do.

A promising third on his seasonal reappearance at Ripon last month was just the preparation needed. Watch for any market move for Copper Knight.

Earlier, Turpin expects to collect big-style on Frontiersman in the 1m5f Weddingmates.co.uk Grand Cup Stakes (2.40).

Charlie Appleby’s promising four-year-old looks the ideal type, having impressed with a 1m4f win at Newmarket earlier this month. He looks well capable of handling the extra furlong.
