It’s the last York racing day of the year, and so your last chance to make a few bob.

But who to back? Over to YorkMix tipster Dick Turpin with his final selection for the 2019 season.

It’s soft ground again today, so take great care, punters! writes Turpin.

When there’s give in the turf, it’s time to rip the pages out of the form book. Four second-placed selections yesterday, admittedly at decent each-way odds, combined with a lovely 40-1 longshot, Daley Express, scraping home in fourth in the sprint handicap. No winners, but just enough to keep our heads above water.

Today, the Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap (3.50) gives us a chance to judge just how good is the likely favourite, Aplomb.

The three-year-old gelding was desperately unlucky to be beaten at Ascot last week, but William Haggas is confident he has a star performer who can bounce back over Knavesmire’s stiff six furlongs.

Turpin is always looking for value, though, and that comes in the form of top weighted Danzeno, who has been knocking on the winning door all season. The soft ground should be no hindrance, and useful apprentice Tom Marquand has a helpful 5lb claim. He’s the nap selection, but the odds will be appealing enough for each-way backers to plunge in too.

Hey Jonesy and Gunmetal are value selections and also worth your each-way attention.

Arrowtown tries to match last year’s success in the stayer’s handicap (5.00), and the Easterby yard are more than quietly confident of the gutsy seven-year-old mare’s chances, with stablemate Sassie a strong contender too.

If you’re looking for others in your Yankee or combination wagers, it’s hard to oppose Harrovian in the 1m2f handicap (3.15), and Colour Image in the 7f Novice Stakes (5.00).

Here’s to a great final day. See you next year, folks!

It’s your last chance of the year to enjoy sporting action on Knavesmire, with this busy two-day meeting bringing down the 2019 curtain.

But can we see you out with a few bob in your pocket? Over to our legendary tipster…

Just two more days of Knavesmire racing left this year, writes Turpin.

And there’s plenty to get excited about before Saturday’s Coral Sprint Trophy race, which is already looking like a major opportunity for Malton’s maestro trainer Tim Easterby; but more about that tomorrow.

Meanwhile, today’s highlight is the Racebets Handcap (3.50), an 18-runner stamina test for 3-year-olds. Hamish heads the market for this 1m6f contest.

The William Haggas gelding deserves top billing after a stunning victory here in the Melrose Stakes in August. But this will be an even tougher proposition for jockey Daniel Tudhope, now carrying a 6lb penalty for that win.

Sir Michael Stoute’s improving Deal A Dollar, a recent Newcastle winner, also catches the eye. But your friendly highwayman’s preference is for a value bet on Hamilton winner, Elysian Flame. Trained by Tim Easterby’s canny 88-year-old uncle Mick at Sheriff Hutton, this descendant of Mark Of Esteem has hinted that there is much more to come.

The application of blinkers for the first time could be the missing ingredient to justify our Nap selection. We’ve had a small whisper for a stablemate too. Art Of Diplomacy has a useful 5lb relief thanks to talented apprentice Andrew Breslin, and could represent excellent each-way value.

Later, in the 4.20 five-furlong handicap, Only Spoofing could be the one to overturn the likely hotpot Moss Gill. At longish odds, the Jedd O’Keeffe 3-year-old represents excellent each way value.
