After the thrill of the three-day Dante meeting, and more than a week of high living off the amazing profits bagged by our tipster Dick Turpin, this Saturday (May 21) at Knavesmire is a much more relaxed affair.
But that doesn’t mean there will be any lack of thrills, as the mystery highwayman explains.
Turpin writes:
I take a chance with Moonrise Landing to grab the prize in the 1m6f Weddingmates.co.uk Grand Cup (2.40).
Proven over two miles with wins at Kempton, Wolverhampton and Lingfield, the Berry / Beckett combination should benefit from a fast pace, and should also prove this daughter of Dalkhani has earned the step-up against what, on paper, look like classier rivals in Elidor and Angel Gabrial.
But horses don’t run on paper, do they?
Race of the day, the Spring Sprint (3.50) five-furlong handicap looks tailor-made to justify Mick Channon’s faith in Shore Step.
The hiring of Silvestre De Sousa adds strength to the argument that Channon believes we have not seen anything like the best yet from the Irish-bred progeny of Footstepsinthesand.
The Ascot fourth, earlier in the month was a great start, after eight months off the course, and will have sharpened the gelding up hugely.
Turpin goes nap on him to pip Kimberella and Royal Birth. Richard Fahey’s Patrick makes strong appeal for a place, with Bondi Beach Boy worthy of consideration for betting value-hunters.
And the whisper from Turpin’s steed, Black Bess? There’s a bit of a word for the Easterby hope, Mystic Miraaj in the Amateur Riders seven-furlong last of the day (5.25).
