The last hunter-gatherers: Star Carr in context with Professor Chantal Conneller
Join us for the first in our series of free talks delivered by the University of York in association with our current exhibition, Star Carr: Life after the ice. The occupation of Star Carr represents the very earliest evidence for the Mesolithic in Britain, spanning the first 800 years of the period. However the Mesolithic lasted for around 5500 years and spanned the entirety of the British landscape, from the shores of Cornwall to the mountains of the Cairngorms, the rock shelters of the Kentish Weald to the islands of the outer Hebrides. In this talk we will look beyond Star Carr to explore how things changed in the Mesolithic as people settled into the British landscape over the course of millennia.
