Two coffee shops in York are closing soon – simply because it’s time “to move on”.
Vi Coffee + Wine on Monkgate and Vi Coffee at Spark York will both close at the end of play on Sunday 29 June.
The Monkgate branch will also be closed between this Thursday and Sunday (19-22 June) and again on 26-27 June.
In a statement on Instagram, Vi wrote: “Our time is up for our little, Swedish-inspired, no-nonsense coffee shops.
“Seasons come and go, and for us, our season to move on is here. a mixture of personal and business lead to the decision to close our doors.

“This isn’t a pity post, nor a defeat. We had a blast. if you worked for us / call yourself a regular or just enjoyed our posts… you’ll know WE HAD FUUN!”
They said that not being with their regulars was the only sadness.
Vi Coffee opened in Spark in September 2023. The business then took over what was a former dry cleaners in the shadow of Monk Bar and transformed it into a Scandi style hangout, opening last April.
The statement finished: “Monkgate will close for good. but keep your eyes out in Piccadilly (Spark) because something’s brewing…
“We are going out with a bang. Come celebrate with us.”
Regulars were understanding – but sad that a unique business was going.
“Vi is truly one of the best places in York to get a coffee, and I’m gutted to see you guys go! So intrigued for what’s next though,” said one.
