A well-known York pub is set to change its name as part of a wider makeover.
The owners of the venue want to add new signs to the outside of the building, which is seen by thousands of people every day.
They also want to add new vinyls to the windows and update the interior.
The pub is the Duke Of York based at York Station. It was previously called Coopers.
Because it’s found on the station, the pub is Grade II* listed.
It’s run by the travel food group SSP. The new name is set to be Line & Whistle.
Some pubs called the Duke Of York elsewhere in the country have changed their names so as not to be associated with Prince Andrew, following his fall from grace.

But that isn’t the reason for the change of name here.
Planning documents state: “Line & Whistle is a brand they are looking to role out at their station venues, Crewe being the first, York the second.
“Colour wise, traditional dark green individual letters/ facia boards, with gold highlighting set against the yellow stone work.”
The documents add: “Due to the station’s historic significance, we have agreed with our client that the existing train station features will be retained in the existing state and only if required any making old works should be completed.”
Internally the refurbishment will include new floor and wall finishes, new fixed / booth seating bays and new lighting.
Pictures of the Line & Whistle in Crewe show it stocks beers including Madri, Fosters and Birra Moretti.
