The snow may be going, but the weather problems are continuing today.

At least three North Yorkshire schools are now shut due to the conditions. And buses are being diverted due to flooding in York.

It comes as a number of flood warnings and alerts remain in force today.

We’ve already reported that Tadcaster Grammar School has shut today.

Now both Appleton Roebuck Primary School and nursery have closed. Headteacher Martyn Broom sent this message to parents: “We have been informed of plans to close the road in both directions into Appleton Roebuck because of the flooding.

“It appears that the water continues to rise.

“Additionally, our food delivery is unable to get through, meaning we cannot provide suitable meals at lunch. I have therefore taken the decision to close the school.”

The road has now closed.

Meanwhile, Osbaldwick Beck has burst its banks. First York bus service number 6 is being diverted away from Osbaldwick, via Tang Hall Lane.

It means Osbaldwick village, Tranby Avenue and Osbaldwick link road won’t be served.

Tang Hall Beck has also burst its banks, with a large section of Hull Road Park underwater.

While inundating the park, the water hasn’t affected nearby roads as yet.

Four flood warnings remain in place in and around York:

  • River Foss upstream of Yearsley Baths
  • River Derwent at Stamford Bridge – The Weir Caravan Park and Kexby Bridge
  • River Derwent at Buttercrambe Mill
  • Bielby Beck at Bielby

Happily, the rest of this week is forecast to be dry – although cold. Temperatures are set to drop to -6°C on Wednesday night.
