In their centenary season, they really will be the Minstermen.
York City FC today revealed its new badge and shirt for the 2022/23 season – 100 years since the club played its first games.
The bespoke Puma kit will include a home shirt inspired by York Minster.
The strip reverts back to their traditional colours of maroon, with gold centenary accents. The home shirt will be matched with white shorts and maroon socks.
In addition to the kit, the Minstermen have updated their club crest with a modern take on the much-loved late 1900s badge which includes the Bootham Bar with two lions either side.
Fans were heavily involved in the design process which started last year, with club surveys and fan focus groups established to gauge direction on the new identity.
Football brand designer Chris Payne was hired to complete the design, who had previously worked with football clubs and organisations across the world.
The new branding will take effect on 1 June , and will run for the duration of the 2022/23 season.
An away and alternate strip will be released at a later stage this summer in the build- up to the new campaign.

York City FC media officer Dan Simmonite led the branding project.
He said: “As a club our vision was to create a brand which reflected a synergy between York City FC and the City of York.
“The design needed to embrace the culture of York, whilst staying true to the history of the club and, with input from the fans, I think we have captured that within the new kit and crest design.
“I truly believe this will be an iconic piece of work and the shirts will become collectors’ items in years to come. I am already looking forward to releasing our alternate kit this summer.”
The limited-edition kit is available for pre-order now from the online store.
