York City are back at the top of the National League table after a stunning double in stoppage time turned near defeat into joyous victory at Halifax
Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Ollie Pearce struck in the dying minutes as City came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win.
Jamie Cooke had put FC Halifax Town ahead after 14 minutes, cutting on to his right foot before lashing home from the edge of the box.
Florent Hoti had chances to double Halifax’s lead but was twice denied by City keeper Harrison Male.
Instead Fagan-Walcott scored in the first minute of stoppage time from a corner and Pearce headed in a dramatic winner six minutes into stoppage time.
Manager Adam Hinshelwood praised the “unbelievable following”. The 2,225 York fans – out of a 3,961 attendance – roared the team to victory.
He said the team showed character and “kept believing” – his full interview is below.
It leaves City at the top of the National League with 35 points, one point clear of Forest Green Rovers who drew on Saturday.
