Watch timelapse video as Norton Skatepark refurbishment waits for the’all clear’ from safety experts
If all goes well on Monday 25 April, after a safety inspection Norton and Malton Skatepark could be open once more.
The campaign to preserve the halfpipe ramp continues too.
Ryan Swain, who has been behind the fight to see it back in use, has shared some timelapse video and pics and told YorkMix what was going on.
Ryan said: “We have been working tirelessly, relentlessly, around the clock, long days, long hours, to ensure that we have not only got a good skatepark, but we’ve got the best skatepark in the whole area.
“We’ve been completely refurbishing the skate park, we’ve stripped all of the old ramps back, covered them with new surfaces
“They took a lot of work, a lot of them were in very poor condition and some of the metalwork and fabrication work was very complex to repair.
“We’ve built two brand new ramps from scratch too.
“On Monday, we’ve got RoSPA, the safety experts, coming to inspect the park. So they’ll walk around with the council, just to make sure that all is ok.
” And once they’re happy with it, it can reopen and young people and people of all ages can start using it again, which is what we want.”
We also asked Ryan about the main attraction, the halfpipe ramp.
“So we’re still spearheading the rescue the ramp campaign, I think now is the opportunity to really push it and ramp it up, pardon the pun.
“It just looks like it’s been left there to rot and ruin. So it needs repairing, the opportunity is there to do it now.
“There is meetings coming up to discuss it again”
