Police have released video footage of the break-in at York Gin on Tuesday night.
A passer-by filmed the thief in the act. Having smashed the windows of the historic store on Pavement, the man grabs bottles on display.
As YorkMix reported earlier, the smash and grab raid saw the thief get away with nothing more than… three bottles of water.
That’s because York Gin always fill the bottles they place in the window with water.
The break-in happened at around 11pm on Tuesday (23 January).
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers are asking members of the public to get in touch if they recognise the person in the footage as they believe they will have information that will help the investigation.
“Although the person’s face cannot be seen in this footage, they are hoping someone may recognise them from their movements or the clothing that they are wearing.”

York Gin’s home is Thomas Herbert’s House, a Grade I listed building dating from about 1545.
