There’s a new little corner of York where you can sit and chill this summer.
Begun after the lifting of the previous lockdown, and refined for this spring’s reopening, the garden behind the Forest restaurant entertained its first diners and drinkers this week.
Forest is the newly updated restaurant at Galtres Lodge Hotel on Low Petergate.
The back wall of the beer garden abuts the grounds of the now-closed Minster School, directly next to the Minster itself.
A new serving kiosk has been created so people can order drinks from the remodelled bar and receive food directly into the great outdoors.
Twinkling with fairy lights at night, heated, and largely covered, it’s a very cosy space.
Galtres Lodge owner Rebecca Hill said: “This is our secret garden that we set up last summer, when we knew that outdoor seating would be really important.
“We’ve made a new bar – that’s only been opened for about a week – so you can get your drinks without having to wait for table service or to go inside.
“We think it’s really cute.”
