A new restaurant has opened in York – offering some magical experiences.
YorkMix revealed in September that the hugely popular Harrogate venue Mama Doreen’s Emporium was planning to open a second venue at the Vangarde Shopping Park.
Now it is up and running – and very beautiful it looks!

It’s found in the unit last occupied by The Confessional, close to the stadium and Cineworld cinema at the Monks Cross shopping park.
“It’s a huge space and our biggest challenge yet,” said Jessica Wyatt, who co-owns the brand with her mum, Justine.
“We absolutely love York and have always dreamed of opening here, but we had to wait for the right moment.
“The site came up and we just knew we had to go for it – it’s been an incredible undertaking but watching the site transform into a space that is so warm and welcoming for our customers has been so rewarding.”
There is more to Mama Doreen’s than delicious food and drink.
Jessica said: “We’re famous for our cupcakes and afternoon tea, but there’s a whole lot more to us than that!
“Over the festive period, we have Grinch-themed brunches and our celebrated Winter Wonderland afternoon tea, along with special Sing-Along events that will be loved by kids and big kids alike.”

The restaurant is all geared up for Christmas. Giant nutcracker figurines guard the doorway, and there are thousands of twinkling lights.
“We’re anticipating a very busy festive season as people head to Vangarde to do their Christmas shopping, so please do book online if you’d like to secure a table – we would hate anyone to be disappointed,” continues Jessica.
The opening of Mama Doreen’s Emporium in York is a big moment for a business that began by making cupcakes for market stalls in 2009.
It opened its first bricks and mortar shop on Cold Bath Road in Harrogate two years later. Since then, the Emporium has gone from strength to strength, completing a move to the iconic former Carluccios site in Harrogate town centre four years ago.
Now it has its first York outlet – where you can also buy tasty treats to take away too. The Emporium’s opening hours are 9.30am to 6pm, seven days a week.
