A couple were robbed of their car and cash at knifepoint – and police deployed a myriad of resources to make two arrests soon afterwards.
Officers were alerted at 1.40pm yesterday (Wednesday) that a man and woman had been robbed.
They had gone to a property in the Farnham area, near Knaresborough to buy a car they’d seen advertised for sale.
When they arrived, they were threatened by a number of people who stole the couple’s car and a large amount of cash inside it.
The robbers left the scene in both the victims’ car and a van.
Once contacted, police control room staff used automatic number plate recognition equipment to track down both vehicles.
Within half an hour police were behind the stolen car on the A61 near Harewood. The suspects stopped the car and ran. They hid in a nearby wooded area.
Armed police, a police dog and police drone were used to track them down.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a class B drug. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of a class B drug, driving with no insurance, driving whilst disqualified and possession of an offensive weapon.
The suspects are now in police custody. Both vehicles have been recovered.
Although the victims weren’t hurt, they were “very shaken up by the incident”.
