The tent of hope has gone – and a much bigger health hub is being built in its place.
This time-lapse video shows the first modular buildings being craned onto the site at Askham Bar.
The York Vaccination Centre marquee, which has hosted tens of thousands of Covid-19 jabs since it opened in December 2020, has been taken down.
The modular health hub, supported by Portakabin, will host lots of health interventions, including helping children with breathing difficulties.
Dr Mike Holmes, chair of Nimbuscare, the primary care group overseeing the vaccination programme in the city, said they had brought in the new centre under emergency Covid planning regulations.
“The craning in of this enormous structure has started,” he told YorkMix Radio.
“So the site will be different for the next ten days, while that gets installed, set up, we make it safe, we make sure it meets all the health and safety regulations.
“But once it’s there, it’s going to give us a really amazing facility – both to continue vaccination, but also to start providing some of these services that will help to speed up recovery.”
