Some mums go that extra mile to show their child some support.
And that’s certainly the case with Nicky, mum of Laura Castle, the YorkMix Radio presenter.
She’s only gone and had the station logo tattooed on her foot!
It all began when they started a new competition – to win the £1,000 marketing budget by coming up with an idea to promote YorkMix Radio, which launched in January.
Breakfast Show presenters Laura and Ben Fry said their absolute dream would be for someone to get a YorkMix tattoo – not expecting anyone to go for it.
But then Nicky stepped up. “She said, ‘I support you, I support the station and all your pals – and do you know what, I’m going to do it!’ Laura told listeners.
She didn’t think Nicky – known as Mama C to listeners – would go through with it. But on Thursday she was booked in with Holly Large of the Skinshockz Tattoo Studio in Wyke and now proudly sports a YMR tattoo on her right foot!
“I’ve just had it done – I survived!” she said in a video straight afterwards. “Bit painful – but I feel really proud of myself, and supporting YorkMix Radio, Laura and her friends.”
“She loves how it looks,” Laura said. “She decided to add a little music note to it – I asked her why and she said, ‘because it adds a bit of femininity’.”
Of course Mama C’s not eligible for the £1K Market YorkMix Radio prize; but you are. And you can enter here
Laura said her brother Shaun had the best reaction. “He said, do you know what it looks like? A nightclub entry stamp. I can’t get that out of my head now!”
Her dad Roger’s not a fan. “He didn’t want her to do it because he just thought it was a silly idea – thanks Dad!”
But Laura and Mama C both love it, and so do listeners judging from the social media reaction.
Ben told Laura that her mum had “guaranteed your position for the next few years. Can’t get rid of you now!”
But Laura’s worried what she might have to do in return. “It’s her birthday soon and I think now she’s going to expect something big – I’m going to have to get her face on my back!”
We think Nicky is an absolute superstar for what’s she’s done – thanks Mama C!
