Watch: Man knocked out in altercation with door staff – Fears York is becoming the ‘wild west’ at night
A concerned pub goer says action needs to be taken to improve safety in York city centre after he filmed an altercation that left one man unconscious.
The incident happened on New Street on Friday night (8 October).
It involved door staff and various revellers. He was filming it from the seats outside The Drawing Room, but doesn’t know where the door staff were based.
Warning: the video shows some violence.
He gave YorkMix some context to what you see in the video. “The lads had had a bit of a scrap with the bouncers before the video, and then came back over and were being aggressive with the patrons of the bar.
“One of them slapped someone and then the events of the video unfolded.”
He said the door staff dealt with most of the incidents well, but was concerned about one man who appears to have been punched, then fell to the floor and banged his head on the pavement.
At that point he looks to be out cold. Efforts to revive him follow, and one concerned woman can be heard saying: “He’s not waking up.”
The man who filmed it, who does not want to be named, told YorkMix that an ambulance was called. But the injured man did come round and walked off before it arrived.
He is urging the man to get checked out at hospital after receiving such a blow to the head.
And he added: “I hope the video forces some reform over door staff, police presence etc in York at night as it’s currently the wild west at night.”
