Two mascots, four months, and 12 schools has led to this – the grand Test the Teacher final!
YorkMix have been on the hunt for the smartest teacher of them all. Twelve teachers from schools around York and North Yorkshire have battled it out and today only the top three remained.
The live final took place today (Thursday) at York Sport and Mrs Hopwood from Selby Community Primary School, Miss Spencer from Badger Hill Primary School, and Miss Brunye from Bootham Junior School went head to head for the grand prize – but who won the pool party at York Sport for their class?
Watch our video below to find out!
For the final, which was broadcasted live to YorkMix Radio, the teachers chose from three sets of questions marked A, B, or C. Each set contained five questions of equal difficulty, testing Science, History, English, Music and Maths.
Mrs Hopwood, who was third on the leaderboard, went first and chose question set C. With questions on the solar system, Sally Rooney and the Spice Girls she scored a very respectable two points.
Then it was the turn of Miss Spencer who chose question set B. She faced questions about US presidents, difficult division and Westlife and took the lead with an amazing four questions right out of five.
Finally, Miss Brunye had question set A and answered questions on bones in the body, Queen and Emily Brontë novels. Miss Brunye smashed it and also scored four points – which meant we went to a tiebreak!
For the tense tiebreak the question was this: How long in miles is Hadrian’s Wall?
The closest answer would win, making that teacher the winner of Test the Teacher. Miss Brunye answered 76 miles and Miss Spencer said 60 miles.
The answer was 73 miles making Miss Brunye our Test the Teacher champion! She has won a pool party for her class at York Sport as well as a 3-month membership at the venue.
Miss Brunye said that she’s “so excited” to have won and can’t wait to share the news with her class.
Laura also chatted with Richard Orr, the business manager at York Sport.
“It’s great going round all the schools,” said Richard. “And we’ve had the introduction of Darwin the Duck, our mascot, this year! Well done to everyone.”
A huge thank you to York Sport and to all the teachers and schools who got involved with Test the Teacher. Until next time!
