An ancient Chinese tradition took place in front of an ancient York landmark today (Saturday).
Dragons danced in front of the cathedral and through the city centre as part of Chinese New Year celebrations.
The red, black and yellow dragons were just one part of a colourful spectacle, which also saw dancers in traditional dress perform, and musicians play.

It was all to herald the Year of the Snake, which began on 29 January, ushering in two weeks of celebrations.
A large crowd gathered outside the West Front of York Minster as the event organised by the York Chinese Society began.

The procession then went to the Minster Piazza followed by a parade through the city to St Helen’s Square.
There was more dancing in front of the Mansion House, in front of the Sheriff of York, Fiona Fitzpatrick, and city town crier Ben Fry.
