Drivers are being conned out of cash in a York car parking scam.
Police have revealed that a number of drivers have lost money after falling for the tech-based swindle.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We have had reports of fake QR codes stuck around the car park signs of York.
“These QR codes claim to be of the official partner company that works with City of York Council, but the link takes users to a third party site that sets up a regular charge from your bank account each day.
“Please be aware of this scam. Check the QR codes, if a sticker has been placed over the top of the original, don’t use it.
“If you are going to use mobile payments, please consider downloading the app before attending.”
Police urged anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact them.
