From Monday 23 May to Sunday 12 June visitors to Treasurer’s House in York can uncover more about the Queen’s visits to this National Trust owned historic house.
The Queen has visited Treasurer’s House three times in her reign – and in this tour with a royal twist visitors can take a look at rare archive images and hear more about her visits and their part in York’s history.
The tour will be as part of the city’s Jubilee celebrations which will mark the Queen’s 70 years of service.
The Queen’s first visit was in March 1972 – when she had a refreshment pause at the house after giving out Maundy money at the Minster.
The second was in November 1988 for a service to celebrate the restoration of the roof and vault of York Minster after a fire severely damaged the building. Most recently the Queen stopped for lunch along with Prince Phillip in July 2000 during a whistle-stop visit to the city.
Find out more about these visits and further stories as well as more about Treasurer’s House itself and its owner 19th century industrialist, Mr Frank Green during the tour.
Tours of Treasurer’s House run Saturday to Tuesday, 11am to 4pm and spaces can be pre-booked via the website.
Or drop in for the next available space – these are allocated each day on a first come, first served basis.
