The man arrested following the death of a woman in Thornton-le-Dale is from Leeds, police revealed today.

Continued policing activity will take place at the address in the village near Pickering for the next few days “and the public can expect to see an increased policing presence in the local area,” North Yorkshire Police said.
A force spokesperson added: “We can confirm that the man arrested on suspicion of murder is 33 years old and from the Leeds area.
“North Yorkshire Police have been granted authority for the continued detention of the man arrested to allow for further enquiries to be undertaken.”
Officers were called to a serious incident at a home on High Street in Thornton-le-Dale shortly before 12pm on Wednesday (5 January).
They discovered the woman’s body and launched a murder inquiry.
Lead detective Superintendent Wayne Fox said: “I want to reassure the local community that, whilst this is a tragic event, North Yorkshire Police are satisfied that we are currently dealing with an isolated incident.”
