A village just 20 minutes drive from the heart of York has been named the most desirable in the UK.
Estate agents Savills has named the 54 most sought after villages in Britain based on a combination of factors including high house prices, best amenities and ‘chocolate-box appeal’.
And Sutton upon Derwent in the East Riding is among them.
The village has an average house price of £409,071.
Its pub, the St Vincent Arms, is a lovely country inn complete with railway sleeper beams and a real fire.
There is also a village hall which hosts a post office and a playing field. Sutton upon Derwent CE Primary School is located in the heart of the village, providing nursery and primary education.
Sutton upon Derwent is also home to the famous Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club and a tennis club.
With a history which dates back to the Domesday Book, and with beautiful countryside close by, including the the Lower Derwent Valley National Nature Reserve, it is no wonder the village is so popular.
