A new Viking-inspired clothing line has launched at Asgard, Little Stonegate.
The York shop, which opened in 2019, specialises in Viking and Norse-themed clothing, jewellery and reenactment supplies.
Now, they’ve launched the Old Norse Clothing brand by German musician Kai Uwe Faust – making it the first shop in the UK to do so.
Kai returned to York for the launch – he was last in the city in February 2020, when his experimental folk band Heilung played at the Barbican.
He used his 20 plus years of experience as a tattoo artist specialising in Viking designs to launch the contemporary clothing line featuring historically inspired motifs from as early as the bronze age.
The brand had already successfully launched in Europe, but Kai really wanted to bring it to the UK. He collaborated with long time friends Cat and Jim Glazzard of Asgard to make it happen.
Speaking at the launch, Kai said, “Old Norse Clothing is not just Viking designs, but a collection of ancient art from across Europe. It has Iron Age celtic horses, Bronze Age rock art animals, and migration period eagles.
“We wanted to create a range that was accessible to anyone no matter where they are in the world. Our motto is Sol lucet omnibus – The sun shines for everyone.”
