This was the moment an unexploded bomb was detonated in York this morning (Friday).
Bomb experts undertook the controlled explosion at 6.10am on Walmgate Stray.
It was witnessed by Darran Mark Walker, who sent YorkMix the moment captured on video.
“They did it at 6.10am. No one else was here except two soldiers, two police officers and that little fat dog,” Darran said.
Police had warned residents last night that they might hear a ‘loud boom’ this morning .
Officers said it would be particularly loud in Heslington, Fulford and the surrounding areas
Explosives experts from the MOD were brought in to detonate the historic unexploded shell.

It was found by a member of the public who was using a metal detector on Thursday.
North Yorkshire Police placed a scene guard and cordon at the scene.
“It’s going to be detonated in situ as this is safer than taking it away,” a spokesperson said.
“We don’t anticipate there will be any need to move anyone from their homes due to the secluded location.
“Apologies in advance if anyone gets an earlier awakening than usual!”
