Video: The York episode of In For A Penny screens tonight
Remember those heady days when Shambles was packed with shoppers – and the occasional game show host?
It was back in August last year that Stephen Mulhern took to the streets of York for two days of filming his game show In For A Penny.
Made famous as a segment on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, the show sees Stephen challenge members of the British public to turn their pennies into pounds.
On his first day in York Stephen filmed at Clifton Moor. Then he filmed at Pets At Home on Foss Islands, where Arron Rose and his girlfriend Aly met the star, and Arron took part in one game.
Stephen he moved in on the city centre – and how.
He filmed a full Ghostbusters parody with York’s ghost hunters along Shambles. And still in the full outfit he visited the Golden Fleece on Pavement, one of the city’s most haunted pubs.
Stephen also cornered shoppers on Parliament Street for games and hi-jinks. Here’s Doris Bell, of Woodthorpe, widow of former Lord Mayor Bernard Bell, taking part in a game involving dunking for Yorkshire puddings.
In For A Penny is on ITV tonight (Saturday, 25 April) at 7.30pm
