Children from St Paul’s Primary School in Holgate in York have carried out a clean up of the area where they live.
It’s part of their involvement in the Young Leaders Awards
With the help of City of York councillor Kallum Taylor and their teacher, Hannah Seven, they filled many green bags with rubbish from the streets and public areas in Holgate today.
Teacher Hannah Seven told us: “So this is the Young Leaders Award, and the children are completing their final project to achieve their certificates.
“We had been on a local community walk a month or so ago, and the children realised how much litter there was in the local area, and decided that they wanted to spend their time doing their community project, litter picking.
“They’ve taken control of the project themselves and this is something that they’ve decided upon.
“They’re building up their communication, teamwork, collaboration, resilience and perseverance skills too.”
Holgate Dock, a green space by the railway bridge, is also looking much better today too!
