York Maze is back this year after taking a break because of covid restrictions.
This time the theme is 50 Years of the Mr Men.
York Maze owner Tom Pearcy told YorkMix that it had been a tough time but he’s managed to keep full-time staff employed with the help of furlough. He wanted to have a bit of fun again and the idea of Mr Tickle and Little Miss Brave really appealed to him.

Now Farmer Tom Pearcy has created what is believed to be the world’s biggest Mr.Men characters cut from his 15 acre field of maize plants near York to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series.
Covering an area the size of 8 Wembley football pitches York Maze is believed to be the largest maze in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
When viewed from the air the York Maze design shows images of the first Mr.Men character to be created Mr.Tickle, together with Little Miss Sunshine, Mr.Tall, Mr.Bump and the latest character, Little Miss Brave, created especially for the 50th anniversary.
Each of the Mr.Men characters in the maze are the size of one football pitch, with over 5km of pathways for visitors to get lost in.
Says Tom Pearcy, “I grew up with the Mr.Men characters and loved watching the original TV series as a kid. I rediscovered the brand when my children were young and just love the images and storytelling which appeals to all ages.
“We were not able to open last year at all because of Covid so we’re really looking forward to welCORNing our visitors back for the first time in nearly two years.
“I’m delighted with how the design has turned out and the maize plants are nice and tall already so its a great year to get lost!”
They open at 10am tomorrow (Saturday 17 July) with new shows and more than 20 attractions.
Plus get lost in the maze with Ben and Laura from YorkMix Radio giving you clues along the way.
