Vandals have caused damage at a much-loved York park.
They struck at Homestead Park off Water End at the weekend.
Most of the damage was to the roof of the Quiet Hub building next to the pavilion.
The perpetrators pulled tiles from the roof of the hub and threw them into the air conditioning machinery.
Homestead Park has an exhibition of willow sculptures which has been delighting visitors, including some modelled on the characters from Harry Potter.
Some of these sculptures were also damaged by the vandals, although we don’t know which ones.
The police were called and are investigating. It is believed that there may be CCTV footage of those responsible.
One park user posted on social media that they were shocked to hear of what happened. “Such a lovely facility for York and people seek to ruin it,” they said.
