A woman has died in a severe house fire in North Yorkshire.
Concerned neighbours contacted emergency services about the fire at Brearton near Knaresborough at 10.09pm yesterday (Saturday).
Fire crews from Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ripon and Boroughbridge went to the incident.
Eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to put out the flames.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
Despite the efforts of firefighters and paramedics to save her life, a woman aged in her late 60s sadly died at the scene. Her family are being supported by the police.
There were no other occupants, and no neighbouring properties were damaged.
The blaze caused severe fire, heat and smoke damage to the living room, hallway and front of the home, with moderate smoke damage elsewhere.
A joint fire service and police investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze.
Police are asking people to come forward with any information that could help the inquiry.
