A squirrel trapped in Poundland in York was released after social media came to its rescue.
The animal was spotted in the window of the Low Petergate shop desperately trying to find a way out on Sunday night (29 September).
This video was filmed by Akira Mitchell, who was trying to find a way to rescue the frantic creature.
She says she tried phoning Poundland head office but not got any joy. Similarly, she’s called the police and the RSPCA’s animals in distress helpline but has not had any luck.
The grey squirrel could be seen running in the window among the Halloween display, standing on two legs and pawing at the window.
After sharing the video on Facebook people rallied round and a Poundland keyholder was alerted.
It took a while to track down the squirrel in the store, but eventually it was caught and released from its shop nightmare.
