Cordons in two places
There are two separate police cordons in York city centre today.
The riverside footpath next to the Coppergate Centre is taped off.
There’s a police guard both at Coppergate, and the end that emerges into the Castle Car Park.
Police tape also restricts anyone exiting from the Coppergate Car Park stairwell to the riverside walkway.
Access to Castle Car Park from Tower Street is open as usual.
North Street Gardens, York
A second cordon is at North Street Gardens.
A bench is sealed off by tape in the gardens, which overlook the River Ouse close to the Radisson Hotel.
There’s a police van parked close to one of the entrances to the gardens, and a police officer is standing guard.
