More details have now been released about the crash on the A1(M) which brought traffic to a standstill today (Thursday, 19 January).
Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway between the York turnoff at junction 44 and the junction 45 Grange Moor Interchange (Wetherby, Boston Spa, Otley A659).
That stretch of the road was shut while crews worked at the scene.
A double decker bus and an Army truck had collided.
The driver of the bus was trapped. A fire crew from Tadcaster joined West Yorkshire firefighters in helping to free him.
They cut away the steering wheel and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “His injuries were not deemed to be serious.”
The road was only fully reopened at 2pm.
