Plans to reopen a fire-hit bakery are being put in place.
As YorkMix reported, a fire broke out at the Cornish Bakery on King’s Square last Wednesday night (29 January).
After gaining access into the heavily smoke-logged bakery firefighters located a fire in the oven, which they put out.

The shop has been closed ever since.
Today Cornish Bakery managing director Mat Finch said that no one was injured in the blaze and that the flats affected by the smoke were safely evacuated.
In a statement, he said: “Fortunately, no one was inside the bakery at the time, and thanks to the swift response of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was very quickly brought under control.”
Mr Finch added: “We are now working closely with the fire brigade to determine the cause of the fire and are assessing the extent of the damage to the bakery.
“We will be putting plans in place to repair the bakery and reopen as soon as possible.
“We will provide an update via our social media channel as soon as we have one regarding the reopening.
“We are incredibly grateful for the professionalism of the emergency services and the support of the local community in York during this time.”
It is the second time the bakery has been closed by fire. It was also hit by a blaze in October 2018.
