Looking for some good mood food? Then head to Cocoa Joe’s in York – which has won a starring role on ITV thanks to its feelgood factor.
The café on Museum Street will feature on ITV show Ainsley’s Good Mood Food this Saturday.
As the title suggests, star chef Ainsley Harriot hosts this celebration of delicious food that boosts your mood – and Cocoa Joe’s fitted the bill.
Ainsley’s co-presenter, chef Joe Carey investigated how the York cafe takes hot chocolate to the next level – and works with team to help create its new ‘special’ based on Tiramisu.
The independent business was started up by University of York graduate Joe Andrew. He said:
It was a real honour to be selected to be involved. They could see how we are trying to do something really special here and enjoyed tasting the differences between our single origin chocolates and seeing how that carries through to create unique hot and iced chocolate drinks.
We also combine chocolate with other flavours to make our ‘specials’, so we experimented with chef Joe and developed a ‘Tiramisu’ hot chocolate for him.
Cocoa Joe’s serves unique hot chocolate drinks, each made directly from any one of 14 specialist chocolates, all really high in cocoa content – even up to 100%.
Joe originally tested out the idea with a small outlet in Pateley Bridge before moving on to open a second shop in York.
After a year of trading in York, Cocoa Joe’s 2 cafe’s have received a 5.0 star average on TripAdvisor and Google.
“It’s been a real adventure starting up this business during all the uncertainty of Covid, especially as we’re trying to do something quite unique here,” Joe said
“We have a simple philosophy which is to do one thing, but to be the very best at it. In the end, there’s nothing better than hearing all the feedback our customers have been giving us.”
